Athletics (Library Study Hall)

This guide was designed to support student athletes, however, others using the library might find the content useful.

General Guidelines

<LIBRARY STUDY HALL = YOUR ACADEMIC SUCCESS>

Time spent in the library should be dedicated to studying and completing coursework.

Signing In & Out

< STUDENT ID CARD REQUIRED FOR SIGN IN & OUT>

The library uses TutorTrac for documenting an athlete's study time in the library.  Students without a GCC ID card will NOT be able to check in & out.

Student IDs can be acquired at the Office of Student Life, SU101.

Sign in & out takes place at the library's west circulation counter and must be done by the student athletes themselves.

Please allow for wait times at the counter when managing your library departure time.  To help minimize sign in & out queue lines at the counter please be prepared to do the following:

  • Clearly state if you are checking IN or OUT.
  • Communicate what course you will be studying.

<STUDENTS MUST SIGN OUT PRIOR TO LEAVING THE LIBRARY FOR ANY REASON>

Students may not be signed in to study hall if they are not PHYSICALLY IN THE LIBRARY.

Study Rooms, Open Area Tables, and Noise

Keep the number of people in your party to a reasonable limit.  Open area tables are limited to 4 athletes

Study rooms are intended for use by up to 3 athletes at one time. Athletes using the study rooms should be working together on a shared or common assignment.  At no time should a study room or table be used for social gatherings or entertainment.

The Quiet Study Room is preferable for athletes who need a silent space for better focusing and studying on their own; as are the single person carrels or desks located throughout the library.

Be respectful of others in the library.  Discussion and noise levels should be kept to a minimum.

Study Hours Tracking

Library staff are unable to check total study time for students.  Please see Athletics for that information.

Students are advised to record their own study time, for example on their phone, as backup.
