ENG101: Culture Assignment (Schoenfeld)

Using the search box below will expand your search beyond a single database. You can limit what type of article you retrieve by using the radio buttons beneath the search box. For example, you can limit your search just to magazine or news articles. 

Using the search box below, try entering the name of your culture AND some of the following words one at a time:

*Collectivism * Individualism *Authority *Cooperation

*Culture OR "cultural values"

*Religion

*Death OR afterlife OR "burial customs"

* Parenting * Gender OR "gender roles"

*Marriage OR "marriage customs"

Remember, you will be comparing cultures using Hofstede's Cultural Dimensions. The dimensions may also be used as search terms.

You can also search for "Indian culture" or "Japanese culture" (of course, use the name of the culture YOU are researching. Putting the terms between quotation marks searches for those words in that exact order.

As you search, try synonyms (words that mean the same thing) to see what different results you get. Below are some suggested synonyms for the cultural concepts you are investigating. The asterisk (star) looks for different versions of a root word. Ex: honest* = honestly, honesty.

To read an article, click on the title, then click on the database that holds it.

To narrow your research results, use the limiters on the left side of the screen. You can limit by a date range and by a subject, as well as by information source types.

Be sure to look at the subject headings of your search results to get ideas for new search terms. A subject search is much more precise than a general keyword search. You can click on subject headings to open a new search but subject, but you will lose your other limiters.
