To Give Credit Where Credit is Due.

Whenever you paraphrase, summarize, quote, or use specific facts or statistics it is necessary to cite your source. Citations include the basic elements needed to identify and locate your source. These elements will vary depending upon the citation format and the materials used. This information is needed to:

  • credit the original author and acknowledge their work
  • show your instructor or reader  that you have conducted valid research
  • allow your instructor or reader to track down the material you used
  • avoid plagiarism
