Glendale Community College Library upholds values of Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) and join other academic and public libraries in condemning systemic oppression, racism, ableism and all forms of discrimination. We acknowledge and continue to learn about our role in the dominant culture and how information professionals and institutions have consciously and unconsciously perpetuated systems furthering and reinforcing inequity. An academic system and community at large only functions successfully when each member of it is valued, represented, and heard. Anything less than full equity and inclusion is injustice. We ask our students and community to please reach out to us with any feedback, concerns or questions about equity and inclusion.

This research guide serves to enhance GCC Library's focus on equity, diversity and inclusion for all librarians, staff, faculty and students. We hope these resources will strengthen community understanding of the nuanced and myriad ways in which racism and a system of white supremacy have created a climate of violence and inequity in for Black, indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) in our society.
This guide will be an evolving repository for books, articles, databases, information, reading lists, videos and a variety of material to create a base for those aiming to shift perspective and begin the work of anti-racism. We see these resources as a first step toward this work. We hope this guide is a jumping off point to educate our community and increase overall awareness and understanding of these complex topics.
This guide will also include information on what we in the library are doing to bring these topics into our work. We are developing plans for the contenting education of our faculty and staff and actionable items we can implement in the library. We welcome feedback from the GCC community on what you want to see from us or resources we should have available.
